It is not the first time that fashion designers celebrate the union between fashion and art on their collections. Dresses and accessories become real paints on which they represent the works of the most renewed artists or prints inspirited by current or past movements. Sometime other artistic expression like music can be the inspirations of designers.

The D&G Fall/Winter 09/10 collection is a tribute to the Opera with its opulence of garments and stages. Shapes are magnificent realized on the balloon skirts and drape dresses, guêpières are completed with theatrical sleeves and military jackets are worn on straight pants.

Fabrics are opulent and precious like chiffon, satin, velvet, silk duchesses, brocades and decorated with applications and tapestry printed. Drawstrings are worn as belts. Even denim become most precious as it is stone embroidered.

Seductive as ever, jumpsuits are back this summer. They have been showing off all fashion parades for the spring summer 2008, everybody ‘s careful to the coming back of this confy suit which easily substitute the most classical suite. You can wear it with flat shoes or with high wheels, for a final effect of sophisticated and sparkling look.

The temperatures are rising to a dizzy height and the city is becoming a red hot territory, the comfortability and lightness of the attire become priority.  So it becomes necessary to find the correct compromise between elegance and practicality, and it is here that light clothes ,allowing us at the same time to be stylish whether at the sea or in the city, become the protagonists of the summer.

The shorts, other than to be comfortable and light, is further also the ideal solution to be really at ease in every situation. This piece of clothing, a true pass-partout of the warm season, offers the advantage to choose among a wide range of  lengths and the models suitable to the different occasions of the day, also according to the fabric, prints and of the materials in which they are realized.

We have already confronted the topic of stripes in regards to woman’s fashion,  comparing this print to another trend back in fashion this year, that is the polka-dots.  Now, for the men’s spring/summer fashion of this year, the combination in matter changes, or better, the stripe is staying  but is competing with another leading trend print, the square.  Square prints can be found in fact on the fabric of jerseys by Gucci made in neutral tones to compliment bright colours like red.  The same goes for the stripes on the materials and fabrics of the men’s collections, like we can see on the bermuda shorts of C’N'C Costume National and the cotton pullovers by Gianfranco Ferrè, Armani, Frankie Morello…

Tiny and discreet or big like soap bubbles,  colourful and lively or tone upon tone, the pois are printed on the dresses, the pants, the summer skirts, they brighten up the jackets and they are put on tops and jerseys like drops of water.

The pois are exploding in the Spring/Summer collections together with another evergreen, the sripes. A familiar print, especially in the beautiful seasons when they are suggested in the classic black and white or navy style (for understanding: the style of the cruise ships with the typical blue and white, and sometimes also red, colours) ending in a range of multicolours.

Spring is around the corner and the new collections will arrive soon. It’s quite a while since we saw 2008 spring summer fashion shows, so it can be helpful to start revising the trends that are in store for the new season.

The first issue is colours which grew in number in the hot weather enriching the wardrobe of nuances going from  pastel shades to gaudy tone. Sometimes, some unexpected combination can even happen. However, the best of springtime is just the possibility to play with colours. Why then don’t start with the colour of the sun?

Yellow appeared on nearly all Milan S/S catwalks for 2008, from the plain-coloured Versace dresses to the Fendi’s and Emilio Pucci’s prints. It also is one of the most seen colour of the Valentino’s palette. D&G and Gucci dresses are full of yellow details as well.

From January 12, 2008 the Men’s Milan Fashion Week will take place. That’s the internationally famous Italian fashion show that sees the presentation of the men’s luxury prêt-à-porter and is organized by the Italian Camera Nazionale della Moda together with the women’s Fashion Week. We will be there personally, like every year, until the end of the fashion shows to see what the designers are proposing for the next Fall-Winter season.
